Last nights Atlanta Web Design Group Meetup at Hypepotamus delivered as promised. I usually come away with some new knowledge from these events, but sometimes the title/description varies from the actual content.
Serial entrepreneur John Lee Saddington skillfully avoided industry-specific jargon and got to the heart of the creative process. One of his talking points was similar to something Dave Grohl said in his recent SXSW keynote speech, albeit with fewer f-bombs. The basic argument is to take an honest look at yourself and find your voice. It doesn’t matter if others get it or not. It is uniquely yours. Understand the things that set you apart and scratch your own itch.
Overly simplified? Cliche? Maybe. But in a world of brand decks, design by committee, and executing design for others, it’s too easy to lose your voice.
